Materials Used in Precision Metal Fabrication
We pride ourselves on our ability to machine a diverse array of materials to produce high-quality metal parts tailored to our customers’ design requirements. Our expertise in machining a comprehensive selection of materials ensures that we can meet the demands of various industries, from aerospace to medical devices and beyond.
Aluminum
Aluminum is a versatile material known for its lightweight and excellent corrosion resistance. Its ease of machining and high strength-to-weight ratio makes it ideal for applications where reducing weight without sacrificing strength is critical. Aluminum is frequently used for components in the aerospace industry.
Steel
Steel, particularly carbon steel and stainless steel, is a staple in our machining operations. Carbon steel is valued for its strength and hardness, making it perfect for manufacturing durable parts. Stainless steel offers excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, making it ideal for medical instruments, food processing equipment, and marine applications. The most common types used are 303 and 316 stainless steel, known for their excellent corrosion resistance and formability. Other options include 410, 420, 430, and 2205 stainless steel.
Brass
Brass is a popular choice for its excellent machinability and attractive finish. Its properties make it suitable for producing parts requiring low friction, such as gears, valves, and fittings. Brass alloys like C360 are also resistant to corrosion, making them a preferred material for plumbing, fittings, fasteners, and electrical applications.
Titanium
Titanium and titanium alloys like Ti-6Al-4V stand out for exceptional strength, are lightweight, and are resistant to extreme temperatures and corrosion. It is predominantly used in the aerospace, medical, and defense sectors. Although more challenging to machine, titanium’s benefits make it invaluable for critical applications where performance cannot be compromised. Titanium parts maintain performance under extreme conditions.
Copper
Copper is widely used for its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. It is essential in producing electrical components, heat exchangers, and piping systems. Copper’s ductility and malleability also allow for creating intricate parts with high precision.
By leveraging our ability to machine these materials, our machine shop ensures that each part we produce meets the highest standards of quality and performance. Whether you need a single prototype or a large production run, we can handle the right material for your project.
